New Mexico leads the nation in high-tech exports and Albuquerque has been ranked number one in growth of high-tech output. Within New Mexico’s tech industry, Intel-Albuquerque is the largest private-sector employer and boasts one of the most sophisticated manufacturing plants in the world.

Technology firms come to Albuquerque to tap the research base, educated workforce and appealing incentives, such as the Job Training Incentive Program, High Wage Tax Credit and Tech Jobs Tax Credit. New Mexico has been in the news in recent years for its commitment to business and its ability to provide a unique quality of life.

Vanguard Center’s central location is convenient to many key resources, including:

Kirtland Air Force Base: Kirtland Technology Park is adjacent to the base which covers 51,558 acres and employs more than 23,000 people, including more than 42,000 active duty and 1,000 National Guard members, plus 3,200 reservists. KAFB is home to the Nuclear Weapons Center, Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) and the 377th Air Base Wing, Kirtland’s host organization, which supports about 76 federal government and more than 380 private sector units.

Research Institutions: Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories are pioneers in many fields, including optics, electronics, microsystems and photonics. The two have also collaborated to create the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies, which will give researchers from universities and private industry access to the labs’ equipment and resources.

Educational Facilities: The University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, New Mexico Tech and Technology and Central New Mexico Community College continue to graduate young professionals prepared to become a part of the high-tech business community.

Technology Crossroads: Sandia National Laboratories is the national crossroads for DOE fiber connections, and this project will be at the heart of that crossroads.

Scientific Alliance: Kirtland Technology Park is also at the epicenter of the Scientific Alliance. Public and private research institutions have joined together to form the New Mexico Technology Research Corridor Collaborative, which promotes commercialization of publicly funded research and technologies. Members include, the Air Force Research Laboratory, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Los Alamos National Laboratory, The MIND Institute, and White Sands Mission Range.
